Sciangai Coat hanger

Foldable and adjustable coat rack. Featuring a highly elementary yet immediate operation inspired by the Chinese board game from which it takes its name. In Shanghai, each element serves as a ground support and, at the same time, a holder for coats and hats at its upper end, specially shaped to hold each garment. The eight solid beech slats that make it up are connected by a joint just above the center and create, when opened, a circumference that can be adjusted as desired based on the available space, resulting in a more or less bulky coat rack. The opening-closing mechanism is made with a steel washer. Stunning for its simplicity and originality, it won the Compasso d’Oro award in 1979.
