Michele De Lucchi

Michele De Lucchi was born in 1951 in Ferrara and graduated in architecture in Florence. In the years of radical and experimental architecture he was among the protagonists of movements such as Cavart, Alchymia and Memphis. He has designed lamps and furnishing elements for the best known Italian and European companies. He was head of Olivetti Design from 1988 to 2002, he developed experimental projects for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens, Vitra and developed various personal theories on the evolution of the office. He has designed and renovated buildings in Japan for NTT, in Germany for Deutsche Bank, in Switzerland for Novartis and in Italy for Enel, Olivetti, Piaggio, Poste Italiane, Telecom Italia. Since 1999 he has been in charge of the redevelopment of some of Enel's power plants. For Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane, Telecom Italia, Hera, Intesa Sanpaolo and other Italian and foreign institutes, it has collaborated in the evolution of the image by introducing technical and aesthetic innovation in the workplace. He has curated many installations for art and design exhibitions and designed buildings and exhibition interventions for museums such as the Milan Triennale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Neues Museum in Berlin. In recent years he has developed numerous architectural projects for private and public clients in Georgia, such as the recently inaugurated Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Bridge of Peace in Tbilisi. Professional work has always been accompanied by personal research on the themes of design, design, technology and craftsmanship. In 1990 he created Produzione Privata, a small business in which Michele De Lucchi designs products that are made using artisan techniques and crafts. In 2006, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Kingston University for his contribution to quality of life. Since 2008 he has been Full Professor at the Faculty of Design at the Milan Polytechnic and Academician at the National Academy of San Luca in Rome. In 2009 he received the Golden Fleece Order and in 2010 the Presidential Order of Excellency from the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.i.
